Mission

The mission of the Cyprus Democratic Lawyers Association is to provide a responsible, informed, and principled voice in public discourse on matters of public interest, grounded in the values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law as they define the modern European legal state.

The Association does not constitute a political or party-political organisation, nor does it operate on the basis of ideological platforms. Its purpose is not opposition for its own sake, nor criticism driven by expediency, but the sincere expression of legal opinion and civic judgment with the aim of safeguarding legality, accountability, and the proper functioning of democratic institutions.

We believe that active participation in public life is an imperative duty of every citizen and organised group, particularly in the context of the ongoing challenges facing the Republic of Cyprus. The survival, sovereignty, and international standing of the Cypriot State depend on respect for democratic legality, equality before the law, and the effective operation of the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial powers.

The Association is committed to the protection and promotion of human rights as inalienable and non-negotiable. Law must function as a shield for the weak and the wronged, and justice must never be compromised in the name of convenience, power, or political expediency.

Consistent adherence to democratic principles and institutional integrity constitutes the strongest defence of small states within the international community and the European Union. Guided by these principles, the Association seeks to contribute through legal analysis, public interventions, and publications to the strengthening of democratic legality and justice in all areas of state action.
