The Cyprus Democratic Lawyers Association, in collaboration with the Kurdistan Cultural Center "Theophilos," organized a conference titled “Cyprus and Kurdistan in the Shadow of a Third World War – Turkish Fascism over the Imrali Prison and Europe’s Silence.” The event took place on October 13 at the Δημοσιογραφική Εστία in Nicosia, attracting a diverse audience interested in regional geopolitics and human rights issues.

The conference featured two sessions. In the first, presentations were given by Kurdish journalist and author Shevkan Kobane, Middle East expert Christos Iacovou, and political analyst Alekos Michailidis, who explored the challenges faced by Kurdish communities and the implications for Cyprus. The second session included speeches by MP Kostis Efstathiou, Ibrahim Bilmez, a lawyer for Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan, and lawyer Dinos Paspalidis. Together, they examined Cyprus’s role in the broader Middle Eastern context and discussed the potential for a united front against Turkish oppression.

The event sparked meaningful discussions on the future of Cyprus and Kurdistan in the face of growing tensions and emphasized the need for solidarity and advocacy for human rights in both regions.
